How the writing on Life in Soft Colors gets made, what it will not do, and what happens when I get something wrong.
Who writes here
I do, all of it, under my own name. Nothing on this site is bought from a content mill, and there is no byline here belonging to a person who does not exist. If that ever changes it will be said on this page first.
Looking before naming
The pieces here describe colours by what they are doing rather than by their names. Undertone, how they behave in changing light, what they do to the thing sitting next to them. They mostly do not name brands or paint codes. A code is only meaningful inside one manufacturer’s range and it goes out of print, whereas learning to see that a beige is leaning pink is yours permanently.
What is deliberately absent
No star ratings and no scores, since a number implies a precision that looking at a wall cannot support. No invented product cards. No prices quoted as fact, because they move and a stale price is a small lie. No colour-of-the-year declarations. No before and after photographs edited to make a result look better than it was, which in a site about colour would be a particularly dishonest thing to do.
About the photographs
The images on this site are licensed stock photographs, chosen to show the kind of light or the kind of colour relationship a piece is describing. They are not photographs of my flat, and they are not presented as evidence of a result I got. Where a piece describes something I did to my own walls, the description is in words, because a photograph of it would have been through a camera, a screen and a compression step before it reached you, and the piece on white balance explains exactly why you should not trust it.
Where confidence comes from
From living with it. A colour I have watched through one season is a colour I say I have watched through one season. Where I am repeating something I was taught, or something that is simply how colour physics works, that is marked as what it is rather than dressed up as personal discovery.
Money and independence
Some links earn a commission, set out in full in the affiliate disclosure. No company reads a piece before it goes up, no company pays for coverage or for a conclusion, and a commission has never decided whether something gets mentioned. Where the two would conflict, the piece keeps the sentence and loses the commission.
Updates and corrections
Every page shows when it was last updated. I revise these when a reader corrects me or when a few more years of looking change my mind, and a revision of substance carries a note about what changed rather than being made silently. A reader who acted on the old version deserves to know it moved.

This is a personal site about looking at colour. It is not interior design advice tailored to your home, and nothing here is advice about paint safety, ventilation, lead in old paintwork, or anything structural. For those, ask someone qualified who can look at the actual room.
